Archeological Tours

Around Playa del Carmen, there are three main archeological sites.

tulum

Tulum, is the city of the wind goddess. The most beautiful setting of ruins in the Rivera Maya. Perched upon the only cliff on the entire coast, Tulum is a short tour around the ruins, but don’t miss the beautiful beaches beneath this ancient setting. Truly one of the nicest spots in Mexico.

coba

Coba, still surrounded by Jungle, is the most authentic of the three. You will walk around the ruins through the jungle with wild life teeming all around you. Journey back to what it was like for the Mayan to exist hundereds of years ago.

kukulkan templeChichen-Itza: voted one of the new seven wonders of the world, is the religious centre of the Mayan civilization. With it’s Huge pyramid, temples and the largest ball court, it is a must see when visiting the area. Chichen-itza was a major regional focal point in the northern Maya lowlands from the Late Classic through the Terminal Classic and into the early portion of the Early Postclassic period. The site exhibits a multitude of architectural styles, from what is called “Mexicanized” and reminiscent of styles seen in central Mexico to the Puuc style found among the Puuc Maya of the northern lowlands. The presence of central Mexican styles was once thought to have been representative of direct migration or even conquest from central Mexico, but most contemporary interpretations view the presence of these non-Maya styles more as the result of cultural diffusion.
